Calvary Baptist Church

Lead Pastor

Las Cruces,
New Mexico
Calvary is looking for their next Lead Pastor to lead the church toward the mission God has for the church. They are looking for someone who can effectively teach the Word of God, lead organizationally, develop volunteers and staff, reach the community through evangelism and outreach and care for the people of the church.

Why We Love This Opportunity

I love this opportunity because Calvary is a healthy church that is prime for growth. They are already full in their Sunday morning worship service and they have the ability to grow even greater. In addition, the church is less than a mile from the New Mexico State University. The church is a multi-generational church that is reaching all ages and stages of life.

A great match for this position would be:

  • Preaching: Someone who can effectively expose God’s Word in a way that people can understand and it encourages and challenges people toward growth in Christ.
  • Leadership Development: Someone who has the proven ability to recruit, develop and deploy leaders (both staff and volunteers) toward the mission God has for the church.
  • Mission-Minded: Someone who has the passion for evangelism, is able to clearly articulate the Gospel and leads the church to reach the community through outreach efforts and personal evangelism discipleship.
  • Ability to Communicate: Someone who has the ability to clearly articulate vision, direction and information verbally and written.
  • People Person: Someone who is likeable, who has the ability to connect with people, care for people, engage with people in a way that makes people feel seen and valued.

About This Organization

Calvary Baptist Church was founded in 1948 when First Baptist Church of Las Cruces and the area missionary F. A. Green established a mission in The Grandview Addition area of the City at the corner of Arizona and Chaparro streets. It was known at the time as Grandview Baptist Mission.

Over the last 25 years, Calvary has had 4 lead pastors who have led the church to an average attendance of 300 adults. The church is elder led and has a great team of volunteers and staff that have helped lead it through each transition, including the current transition.

With a rich history of serving the community and living out the Gospel, Calvary has built upon a foundation that honors God and serves people. They are contemporary in their approach, but stay true to the Gospel message and God’s Word. Their core values (The Gospel, Community, Mission) represent who God has called the church to be and they will continue to reach the community for Christ.
